Back in the early nineties, noted golf course architect Arthur Hills was given an old layout to resurrect on the eastern end of Puerto Rico.
Hills took the old golf course and reconstructed it on a difficult parcel of land where more often than not the lies would be on even ground, but the views would be spectacular. When it opened in 1993, the golf course at the El Conquistador Resort did so to rave reviews.
The golf course here at El Conquistador Resort blends in perfectly with the topography on which it sits, a testament to the creative genius of Arthur Hills.
This par 72 layout at El Conquistador Resort is breathtakingly beautiful and offers a challenge to all skill levels throughout this golf course. You’ll find dog legs that descend through broad corridors for dramatic elevations, some as much as 200 feet. It’s not your normal resort-type course. Most resort courses are relatively golfer friendly. This one with the hills and uneven lies makes it really fun.
You’ll find challenges throughout this course, even though it’s not a very long track by today’s standards. The elevation changes, green complexes and lakes’ position throughout the course are the hallmarks of this golf course and add to the level of difficulty to it. And let us not forget about the wind that comes off the water.
With its four sets of tees, you can choose just how much of a challenge you would like in your round here at El Conquistador Resort. The back Black tees play to 6,746 and offer a course rating of 74.5 and a slope of 141.
